Compress PDF

Make a PDF smaller so it fits email attachments and upload forms. Large photos and scans are scaled down and saved again as JPEG, while text, links and drawings stay sharp and selectable. The PDF never leaves your device.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. Select the PDF you want to make smaller.
  2. Choose a compression level. Recommended suits most files.
  3. Click "Compress PDF" to download the smaller PDF. The new size is shown on the page.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF be?

It depends on what is inside. PDFs with photos or scanned pages often shrink by half or more. PDFs that are mostly text are usually small already and change little.

Will the text stay sharp?

Yes. Text, vector drawings, links and form fields are kept as they are. Only images are compressed again, so choose Light if image quality matters most.

Why was nothing downloaded?

If the PDF cannot be made smaller, for example because its images are already compressed, the tool tells you instead of giving you a file of the same size or larger.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is compressed in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
