Frequently asked questions

How can a PNG get smaller?

PNG is lossless, so the image is reduced to a palette of at most 256 colors chosen from the picture itself. Screenshots, logos and drawings often lose more than half their size with no visible change. A lower quality uses fewer colors; smooth gradients may then show bands.

Is the transparent background kept?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels stay as they are, so a logo or sticker still fits on any background.

What about photos?

A photo saved as PNG usually gets much smaller as a JPG. If it has no transparency, choose JPG as the format, or use Compress JPG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The images are compressed in your browser, so they never leave your device.
